Correlation between Insurance Claims and Date of Birth

Monday, September 29th, 2008

An interesting research made by an agency reveals that making a car insurance claim is determined partly by your date of birth. According to the report published, most unsafe motorists are those born in December while those drivers who are born on the first of the month are comparatively safer drivers. The “danger birthdays” which are accident prone are people with birthdays around September 16th, December 24th and February 29th. May 31st incidentally has been reported as the luckiest date. The report has been based upon two million car insurance claims and speeding and traffic defaulters have been cross checked with their date of birth. The agency stated that there is an interesting correlation exists between drivers who are accident prone with their date of birth. People with unusual birthdays like December 24th and February 29th are highly unsafe drivers while people born on the first of any month are careful and safe drivers. However, the agency was quick to add that claims are not rejected based on the unlucky date of birth of drivers. It is just mere coincidence that seems to exist between safe drivers and their lucky dates of birth. Their date of birth has nothing to do with motor insurance claims or refusal of claims by insurance agencies.

Understanding Your Car Insurance

Monday, September 29th, 2008

Do you know really how car insurance works? Have you ever given it a serious thought as to whether you are getting your cars’ worth when you approach your insuring agent for claims? Many fail to understand that when you purchase a car insurance, you are insuring the car for the value at the time of purchase keeping certain conditions in mind. But at the same time, you must have noticed that in most cases when you get involved in a crash accident, you do not receive the total value as mentioned in the insurance papers.

So it leaves us bewildered as to how the process actually works. However, there are very few answers on the working of the car insurance industry. They will provide you with the value of your car not more than the amount before being written off. Then if this is the case, why at all do they ask for a rough value. It is now understood that a part of the premiums which you pay are used for repayment for the loss incurred by uninsured drivers to the insurance industry. So, are we in the UK getting a good deal on car insurance? We still have to understand the variables which are used by the insurance companies to calculate the premiums.

Road Signs To Improve In UK

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

The UK government has announced that review of road signs will be given high priority and be given the biggest consultation in 40 years. This measure is adopted as a part to reduce the number of accidents. Motorists who are more interested in avoiding a claim on their car insurance may be more interested in getting involved in the review of the road signs across the UK.

On talking about this measure, Rosie Winterton, Transport Minister, said that the road conditions has witnessed dramatic changes in the past years and the road signs need to keep pace with the changes. Improving road signs will provide the best possible information to all motorists. She also added that the government showed more interested in improving the road conditions but failed to incorporate necessary road signs thinking that this could clutter the streets. Incorporating new road signs is indeed a positive measure taken by the Government in improving the driving conditions.

She stated that updating traffic signs will play a part in reducing congestion and CO2 emissions. The department of Transport also announced that practical driving tests on cutting emissions and saving fuels will also be given to the new motorists.

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

Price comparison sites have come out with interesting facts about the eco-friendly car cover. People often tend to opt for hybrid cars as a part of the go green trend but if they compare the insurance expenditure, they are sure to think again. Price comparison researches done by the website reveal that eco-friendly drivers will have to pay more for the car insurance when compared to non-eco-friendly ones.

Statistics reveal that premiums are over 105% expensive when compared to that of standard insurance policies. The insurance provider’s ibuyeco and Green Insurance offset 100% of the carbon emission of the car. However motorists need to keep in mind that clearing the carbon conscience will come at an extra cost. He appreciates the measures taken by the Government in protecting the environment. However advises motorists that eco-friendly car insurance is not the best place to start in regard to going green. He also comes with a valuable tip for the non-eco-friendly drivers – for ordinary cars CIS promises to offset 20% of one’s carbon emission by investment in reforestation and renewable energy sources and this is indeed very competitive for car insurance. He concludes saying that giving some of the money directly for eco-friendly causes is the best measure as a part of going green.
