Drivers advised to take European Car Insurance for driving abroad

If you are planning to drive outside the UK, then make sure that you have valid European car insurance and a comprehensive insurance cover for your car to drive without much hassle on foreign soil. According to a survey by Sainsbury’s Car Insurance, almost 17% of the UK drivers plan to drive in different European countries and as many as 48% would be driving for more than 1,000 miles.
Most car owners in all probability would not reveal their travel plans to their insurer and would switch to third party insurance when driving abroad. Sainsbury’s Car Insurance manager very logically states that meeting with an accident is always bad and if it happens abroad, it becomes worse for lack of local knowledge and help.
To add to your woes, if you are driving without a comprehensive cover and only a third party insurance, the damages for the other party would be covered but you would need to foot your own bill to repair damages for your car or to yourself. Drivers have also been advised to learn about the driving rules of that particular country they are driving.
