Natwest are the members of the Royal Bank of Scotland.
National Westminster Bank was started in 1968. The history of this bank is traced to 1650s. The
Natwest bank started as a merger between the National Provincial Bank and Westminster Bank. The merger had many advantages to its credit and it helped the bank to invest in technology and streamline its branches. The bank had a new symbol of three arrowheads.
The bank had 3600 branches and had a wide range of services like credit card, cash dispensers. Later the bank diversified into international banking to provide service to companies all over the world and focused on expansion in Europe, Far East and USA.
In 1990s with the change in the financial services market, the bank relooked at its strategies and exited from a number of markets, acquired the named
Natwest for its operations.
Natwest was acquired by the Royal Bank of Scotland group in March 2000. The acquisition being the largest take over in the history of British banking,
Natwest has become the fifth largest bank in the world, and the second in UK and Europe.
