The staff of Esure, on the other end of the phone, seems to be very warm but they fail to do much for you after the phone is put down. My car got damage in late October and there the trouble started. It took the company 3 weeks to decide whether the car was to be written off or not and that also after an aggressive follow up. I was entitled to a courtesy car in the meantime but did not get any. I think it was due to the fact that since my car was not sent to the garage for repairs, the garage people could not book any business and hence they refused to send a courtesy car. However I had to hire one out of my own expenses. After discussing the situation with their staff who failed to understand themselves why I wasn’t sent a courtesy car. They advised me to send Esure a letter of complaint I sent them a letter and a bill for the hired car. It has been three weeks and I have received no notification that my letter has been received. Despite making promises of return calls nobody actually returns the call. The people whom we contact have no powers or authority to take decisions and to even talk to their senior people on our behalf.

The experience with Esure was very pleasing initially. I took out a policy with them online and that also at a cheaper quote. And then things started getting worse when I met an accident. The accident was not my fault and I informed Esure immediately. They started off in a very helpful and friendly manner and advised us using their own garage rather than the one we knew as it would be quicker. Since I was paying extra on my insurance I got a hired car in just a few days. It took them three and a half months to repair our car and when they returned it to us it was in a sorry state. The central locking system was not working, the oil leaked, some dents here and there were not done and the back door seized to open. We asked them to repair the same but they refused saying that these damages didn’t happen due to the accident. I told them that these damages occurred as part of the accident and that I insisted on getting my car back in the same state as it was prior to the accident. We later found out that no one from the company assessed the car and they completely relied on the garage for a photo of our car. They advised that we should have looked around our car for damages. And the most shocking thing is that they refused to insure us for no fault of ours.

It was on the New Year’s Day which was a bad time for an accident as the day was immediately followed by a weekend and a bank holiday. When I called up the Esure Car Insurance people and found the process for registration of the claim very easy. They informed me of the best place nearest to my place where I could get the car repair done. On the first working day after the accident I received a call from the repairers early in the morning asking me as to when can they collect my car and deliver the courtesy car. The repairers are well known Porsche repairers in Wales despite my car not being the Porsche. They kept me fully informed of the progress of the repair and returned it in a very good condition. It was a wonderful experience!

With a record of 7 years and no claims with Esure I was expecting to get a fair price from them. Esure quoted me 60 pounds extra on a policy which was similar to Saga. I was offered full comp protected no claims and legal cover by three companies who do not advertise much on the TV but are still ‘safe’ to associate with. Their quotes ranged between 273 and 278 pounds while Esure’s was 340 pounds.

I met an accident when I was hit badly on a roundabout as I was trying to cut into my lane. Insured with Esure I had all photographs and other relevant details from the very first day only. I informed them immediately while the other driver failed to produce his insurance for a considerable time. During the entire experience I was never called by the Esure people. They were simply not bothered to interview me or to take any details from me. And to my dismay, they sent me a letter some 90 days after the incident stating that they had to accept the liability since the other car driver was able to produce a witness. I was held responsible for the accident and that also without any questions addressed to me. They did not show any interest in what I wanted to say. They simply cut my NCD and I lost all, my excesses, time and patience. And after the whole sorry experience they still sent me a renewal quote with a sky rocketing price. When I called them up to discuss, they informed that Esure will only consider any reduction in the quote under their “Comparative Quote scheme” which means that if I make another cheaper quote from any other company available to them, only then they will consider any reduction. And my loyalty of 4 years with them did not matter.
