Direct Line Car Insurance

Direct Line Car Insurance offers three types of Car Insurance to its policyholders namely Third Party Fire and Theft, Comprehensive and Third Party only Insurance policies. Details of the policies are available on their website in PDF Downloadable forms. The Comprehensive insurance provides cover for damages due to fire, theft and also covers for medical expenses, personal accident and personal belongings cover.

Direct Line Benefits
Direct Line Car Insurance provides a variety of benefits to its policyholders, which includes 24-hour helpline for accidents and windscreen, replacement and repair of windscreens, legal protection for any uninsured losses. The Accident Action Pack provides information on what to do in the event of an accident.

No Claims Discount (NCD)
No claims discount can be availed for a maximum of 5 years. The discount for the first year is 30% and increases to 65% the next year. After 4 years the NCD can be protected for an extra premium. Even if you make claims in any year or maximum of 2 claims in a 3-year period you will not loose the discount.

Excess
Excesses are amounts paid towards claims or loss incurred due to damage to the car. If the premiums are low the excess will naturally be high hence if you pay a voluntary excess then you can get a low premium. Be careful in not choosing a low premium and high excess, as you will have to pay that excess in the event of a claim.

Guaranteed Hire Car (optional)
Guaranteed hire car is made available for a small extra premium up to 14 days if the policyholder’s car is unusable or is undergoing repair. This option is available only with comprehensive policies.

Legal Protection (optional)
Legal protection is available for an extra premium. This can be utilized in case of accidents, which is not the policyholder’s fault. Legal costs up to £100,000 us covered.

Direct Line Claims
For making claims the process is very simple. If car is stolen you should report the same to the nearest Police Station and should obtain a crime reference number. After this the policyholder can call the claims department of Direct Line. The telephone lines are open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Monday to Friday and Sundays and Saturdays the lines are open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. respectively. There is another Accident Recovery Helpline, which is available all the 24 hours.

Process for Claims
The Personal Claims Adviser will take the details of the incident including the crime reference number. The policy will then be reviewed; excesses will be informed to the policyholder, repairs for the car will be arranged at approved repairers. In cases where the car cannot be repaired then settlement to the policyholder is done.
