Motorists Disobey Law by Driving without Adequate Insurance
The latest research by moneysupermarket reveals that almost 19 percent of the motorists surveyed, confessed to have driven a car without valid insurance. The survey showed that one-tenth of the motorists have disobeyed the law and driven their car without proper insurance while eight percent admit drove someone else’s car without adequately insured. Men are most likely to break the law with as many as 25% admitted to having broken the law compared to only 16% of women. The survey also shows that Young Drivers in the 20 something age group are the maximum culprits as almost 42% of them have driven without cover compared to only seven percent of those in the sixties. Andy Leadbetter, managing director of insurance, said that it is really shameful to have so many drivers on the road who disregarded the law. In 2008, 15% of the motorists did not carry valid insurance cover and the trend in 2009 is even worse. Driving without license is not only risky but also against the law. Anybody found driving without insurance could face a £200 on-the-spot fine and six points on their licence or could even have their car impounded. Andy Leadbetter also said that if Brits are letting off their car insurance for cost reasons it clearly represents a false economy. The research also revealed that motorists in the south are more likely to drive uninsured than elsewhere. Almost 26% in London and the South West confessed to the crime. Motorists of East Anglica are a close second to this crime. Uninsured drivers also cost the insurance industry £500 million each year in claims, and the cost cover for responsible motorists increase by £30. Though it is time of recession and many are finding it hard to make ends meet, yet there is absolutely no reason for people to cut costs on such important thing as motor insurance. |
