Car Insurance Companies do not Cover Petrol Theft

Though petrol theft is a fairly common crime in the UK most insurance cover do not cover for damages or losses incurred during petrol theft. Insurance companies do not replace the petrol cost as their cover is based exactly on the terms of the policy. Most Car Insurance policies cover theft of the car or damage caused due to accident or contents within the car which does not include petrol or the oil tank or damage caused due to vandalism.
In its recent report, BBC stated that the AA has termed petrol theft as nuisance and not and epidemic and since the issue not an important one, insurance companies do not cover petrol theft.
Many motorists have started using anti-theft devices to protect illegal entry to the petrol tank. However, thieves are extremely clever and they have even learnt the trick to break the petrol tank cap and drill a hole to steal petrol. While stealing petrol, the car suffers heavy damages which are sometimes irreversible.
